I now have the great privilege and honor of being the Mayor of the City and County of Broomfield. I see this as a 4-month job interview and I fully intend to earn the support of those who don’t know me yet.
People who do know me, know that I’ve never met a stranger and when I commit to doing something, I am all in and give 100%.
Since Council unanimously appointed me to Mayor Pro Tem in November 2019, I have shown up to every Council meeting except one when my father passed away. The Mayor and I worked very closely since then and I took my role as back-up seriously – attending every weekly coordination meeting, every script review meeting and countless last minute calls and meetings with City Management throughout the pandemic. I made sure I was always responsive and prepared to step in should the need arise, shadowing Mayor Quinn and learning the responsibilities just in case. I have attended every town hall, every weekly Covid update, almost every oil and gas meeting and all of my 8 boards and commissions commitments even as an alternate.
The purpose of having a successor is to minimize disruption of the City, County and Council’s work. The residents of Broomfield deserve more than a “placeholder”. That term truly diminishes all of the extra time and effort that Mayor Quinn and I devoted to our roles. Building and nurturing relationships with and among my Council colleagues and within the community has always been a priority for me.
Being the interim Mayor is about fulfilling a duty that my fellow Council members entrusted to me almost two years ago. Broomfield has an interim Mayor that truly wants the job and and is willing to step up and earn it. Thank you all so much for your support!

National Night Out is back for 2021! This year NNO will be held on Tuesday, August 3 from 5:00 pm – 8:30 pm at Broomfield County Commons Park! Bring the family to celebrate this all-hazard safety event featuring interactive learning stations, all-hazard preparedness education centers, an interactive SWAT display, and demonstrations by the BPD K-9 Unit and the North Metro Fire Rescue District. Don’t forget to bring a picnic supper for your family as food will NOT be available for purchase. We hope to see you there!

With Broomfield’s first official celebration of Pride this June – we are welcoming a series of long-overdue firsts in this County, from the first openly gay cabinet member and first openly gay state governor in the U.S – right here in Colorado – to me Guyleen Castriotta, the LGBTQ Mayor for the City and County of Broomfield. These moments of courage serve as a beacon of hope in a world that continues to devalue the dignity and safety of others. If you find yourself wondering why LGBTQ Pride month matters – it’s because LGBTQ folks just like me want to be able to live their lives without fear, without oppression, and without even thinking about it. For my wife and I, we worry that the next administration will nullify our marriage equality. Think about all of the hurdles to equality that still exist in our nation, and the trauma that so many LGBTQ people have faced simply because of who they are or who they love. That’s why congress must pass the Equality Act.
As President Obama once said: “When all Americans are treated as equal, no matter who they are or whom they love, we are all more free.”
Broomfield, Colorado – Today LGBTQ Victory Fund – the only national organization dedicated to electing LGBTQ people to public office – endorsed Guyleen Castriotta for Broomfield Mayor. The endorsement signals Victory Fund’s confidence that Guyleen is well-positioned to win the council race and will be a strong voice for equality once elected. Guyleen would be first openly LGBTQ person to be Mayor of Broomfield if she wins her race.

Today I had the honor of speaking at the Broomfield Veteran’s Memorial Day event as we paid our respect to those who gave their lives for us all. Thank you to everyone who joined us today in the County Commons park to honor the men and women of the armed forces who have given their lives protecting ours.
Thank you to Rocky Mountain Brassworks for the moving rendition of the National Anthem, and thank you to the Broomfield Police Department and North Metro Fire Department for posting colors and so respectfully honoring those who have given their lives in service.
The courageous men and women who serve our country boldly volunteer to uphold our values of freedom, independence and honor, a commitment that sometimes leads to the ultimate sacrifice– giving their lives in order to protect our own. Many of these heroes and she-roes made this sacrifice at a very young age when life was just beginning.
The men and women we honor on Memorial Day are members of the armed forces, but they are also spouses, mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, cousins and more. We honor these family members by remembering their loved ones today.
The sacrifice of these brave defenders and their families leaves a hole in our community and families, and today we remember, value, and honor those who have lost their lives in service.

I can’t express my appreciation enough for Mayor Quinn’s service to the city, especially his leadership during this very difficult and challenging year with COVID.
I was surprised by his decision to step aside this month, but I respect it and understand it.
Mayor Quinn has consistently put the City and County of Broomfield first and now is the time to celebrate his contributions and leadership. I had the great privilege of working side-by-side with Mayor Quinn since November 2019, which has prepared me to step in and take on the role of Mayor. It is because of Mayor Quinn’s inclusive leadership that I am ready to deliver a seamless transition for Broomfield.
I am eternally grateful to Mayor Quinn for his selfless service and dedication during these unprecedented times.
